Warung Surabaya @ FarEast Plaza

I am never a fan of going to town or anywhere particularly near to town. It's super crowded, I get lost easily when I'm alone and lastly, there's no great food anywhere. There is, but quite the hassle to find. In Singapore, the best foods are always found somewhere quiet and humble. Like the super delicious Laksa I had! Click here if you haven't read about it.

I did not ate the whole day because I wanted to find someplace nice to dine in. So my friend and I are circling Orchard Road trying to find something yummy to eat. I remembered I was craving for something traditional and as usual, I will not have my meals for the day if I am doing a review on a restaurant in order to have a fair and accurate judgement on the food. So we walked, and walked and we found this humble Indonesian restaurant: Warung Surabaya.

It didn't particularly caught my attention. The place was dull and boring, menu was boring. I remembered saying that this restaurant looks like a fake or imitation of the Ayam Penyet Ria (which was only steps away surprisingly.) We usually have our meals at Ayam Penyet Ria, so we decided to be nice and try this inspired version of Ayam Penyet Ria. And this is what we ordered:

1. Ayam Rica-Rica (Spicy Chicken with gravy)
2. Soto Ayam
3. Kang Kong Belacan
4. Mie Ayam (Chicken Noodle)

First of all, I get pissed off when food tastes so bland as if salts are so expensive, they could not afford to add it into their cookings. Yes, the Ayam Rica Rica was super bland, I can't even describe how disappointed I was. It didn't have any flavor, all I could taste was spicy-ness. It's like drinking a spicy mineral water. Plus, the chicken was overcooked, and it was super dry.

The Soto Ayam? One word. Atrocious. It smelled and tasted so herbal. But there was a nice flavor to it, but meh.. Not up to expectations. Not safe for a normal human to consume.

The Kang Kong Belacan was the only legit yummy dish I ate throughout the whole day. The spicy-ness was good, vegetables were cooked perfectly.

The chicken noodle? Annoyingly disgusting. First of all, I apologise. Foods are never disgusting. The people who made it, is. First of all, it is never a good idea to cook instant noodles and serve it in your restaurant. Also! Never a good idea to serve egg that is obviously fried 1000 years ago. Yes, we all know how to differentiate an egg that is fried freshly or not. And while at that, please don't forget this:
EGG SHELLS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EATEN.

I am so weirded out at all the bold media displays they hanged up at the entrance of their restaurant. Is it photoshopped? Because honestly... at this point of time, the chef that is cooking in there should prolly find something else to do.

Once again I apologise if my opinions or comments hurt anyone. My blog is supposed to spread awareness and this is the reason why I want to do it.
People who do not have passion in cooking should not open up a restaurant.
